This book is on a more personal level experience of the author and her family than for example a Lonely Planet type of informational book. The book gives the reader insight to regions colorful history as well as current travel information. Not much to say about a travelogue. Roaming about Queensland and indeed of the rest of Australi ia a National pastime. Auzzies love their continent and many a time they load there whole household on a caravan and off they go for months and sometimes for years coaching there children via satellite as they roam from State to State.
The Coatline from Birisbane to the north is not very interesting unil one goes beyong Rockhapmton, when the coast changes and becomes subtropical with the forest reaching the shoreline. Between the shoreline and the Pacific the Great Barrier Reef is one of the greatest sights on mother earth, visible from the moon! It is a living formation created by corals after millions of years. Though I have not ventured on the Eastern highway beyond Carns, I believe it is a very pretty place and a great favourite of many world leaders including President Clinton, who stayed there on holiday. President Kennedy was shot down during WW2 in the Coral Sea just further up the road.
Cape York is still hardly unexplored and there are still inaccessible areas with no roads and no halfway houses. So carrying your own gear is very important. I dont thnk this book has any real litterary value but it is a useful guide for visitors, who want to visit this part og Queensland.

This book is barely above basic blog level. And it seems to me that it is difficult to justify selling it!
This is a nice personal summary. However, I need some substance in my reads. Details, locations. A more intimate coverage of some areas would have been nice. All in all, it is a good introduction to a less touristy side of my home country )
